Mardi Gras begins in January with the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany. It is the time to let lose and enjoy yourself before Lent. People of all ages, wear a variety of costumes and participate in merriment. The Mardi Gras Parades officially start the Friday before Ash Wednesday. There are floats and parades in the many parishes of New Orleans. These floats are spectacular and are produced by specific Krewes or clubs. The Krewes who ride the floats throw beads at the crowd.
